PNP killed 1,140 drug suspects since July
A total of 1,140 people have been killed in the police's anti-illegal drugs operation since July.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) said that from July 1 to 6 a.m. of September 18 (Sunday), policemen have also arrested 17,428 drug suspects have been arrested.
It added that a total of 53,066 drug pushers and 661,737 confessed drug users have also surrendered through Project Tokhang, where policemen make door-to-door visit on drug personalities with the help of barangay officials.
The PNP said it had visited a total of 1,041,429 houses under Project Tokhang.
The police had also reported that as of August 31, it has recorded 1,391 "death under investigation (DUI)."
Victims in DUIs were killed by unidentified gunmen and marked as drug suspects.
The number of deaths related to the government's campaign against illegal drugs has caught the intention of the international community.
The United States, United Nations and most recently, the European Parliament, have urged an end to the wave of killings.
The Senate has also launched an investigation into the killings of drug suspects.
