DUMAGUETE CITY -- A 3-year-old boy died after he got trapped in a burning house in Barangay Balugo, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, on Monday morning.
The victim's father, Jaime Kuhay, mourned the death of his son, Gegon.
Gegon was trapped inside his family's house at Sitio Nangka, Habitat 1 Barangay Balugo when fire tore through it at around 11 a.m.
According to Jaime, he left his three children, Gegon, Rochiba, 5 years old, and James John, 8 years old, after he went to work.
Rochiba and James John managed to escape the blaze but failed to save their youngest sibling after he got trapped at the second floor.
Fire Officer 3 Kirby Nazareno said the blaze started from an unattended candle. He added that the Kuhays' residence had no electricity after it was disconnected for failure to pay bills.
The victim will be laid to rest Tuesday while his two siblings will undergo stress debriefing from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
