President Rodrigo Duterte met with National Democratic Front chief negotiator Luis Jalandoni on Thursday night in Davao City, a report on Unang Balita on Friday said.
The two of them talked over dinner about the ongoing peace talks between the government and the NDF in Norway.
Duterte declined to give more details about the meeting, but said he leaves it up to the peace panel negotiators of the government and the NDF to handle it.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, the peace panel negotiators met at the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Taguig City. The meeting was facilitated by the Special Envoy to Peace Process Elizabeth Slattum.
The Office of the Presidential Advisor on the Peace Process on Tuesday said both panels agreed in principle to "revitalize" the Joint Monitoring Committee for the implementation of the Comprehensive Agreement on Respect for Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law (CARHRIHL).
The agency said among the items approved in the JMC meeting include: maintenance of office with dedicated personnel to receive complaints on violations of CARHRIHL; and joint GRP-NDF information and education campaign on human rights and international humanitarian law.
Former Agrarian Reform chief and government peace panel member Hernani Braganza said the GRP-NDF panels also met on Wednesday to discuss the extension of the unilateral ceasefire.
The formal peace negotiations will resume on October 6-8 in Oslo, Norway.
