150 soldiers help beef up police forces at NCR checkpoints

One hundred fifty soldiers have been deployed starting Thursday to assist policemen in manning checkpoints in Metro Manila, a report on Unang Balita on Friday said.

Only the policemen, however, are tasked to search vehicles, the report by Vonne Aquino said.

National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) head Chief Supt. Oscar Albayalde said the additional manpower from the Armed Forces of the Philippines can help intensify the checkpoints in Metro Manila.

Hindi sila 'yung magse-search ng sasakyan. If you notice, 'yung ating pa ring mga pulis na naka-short firearms lang para hindi ma-intimidate ang ating mga motorista,Albayalde said.

He added that they are observing the plain view doctrine at checkpoints.

Pinapaalalahanan din natin sila to practice 'yung plain view doctrine natin na hindi natin ipapasok anumang parte ng ating katawan and at the same time maging courteous 'yung ating kapulisan," Albayalde said.

The NCRPO chief also said policemen manning the checkpoints cannot open the compartments inside a vehicle without the consent of the motorist or if the motorist voluntarily does so.

Hindi pa rin natin pwedeng buksan 'yung mga compartments ng mga sasakyan not unless na pumayag or binuksan na voluntarily ng ating mga motorista 'yung mga compartments ng mga sasakyan nila, he said.

Motorists are advised to observe the proper conduct at checkpoints:
Dim the headlights of the vehicle.
Turn on the interior light.
Roll down the window to allow policemen to do a visible search.

Albayalde also clarified that motorists do not have to go down their vehicle.
He likewise said frisking of passengers are not allowed.

The NCRPO chief also said there is no terrorist threat in NCR.

Metro Manila policemen are on full alert after the deadly blast in Davao City on Sept. 2.

President Rodrigo Duterte signed a proclamation on Sept. 5 putting the entire country under a state of lawless violence.

Under the proclamation, the AFP and the Philippine National Police are commanded to take measures to prevent lawless violence
