Convicted crime boss Jaybee Sebastian on Monday denied that he was a
government asset of the previous administration, refuting the claims of Senator Leila de Lima.
De Lima earlier said that Sebastian was an asset who gave the government useful information that led to the December 2014 raid in the Bilibid.
Asked by House committee on justice chairperson Reynaldo Umali if this
was true, Sebastian said: “No, your Honor… Iyun din po ang gusto kong
linawin dito [That is also what I want to clarify], your Honor.”
The convicted kidnapper repeated his denial after taking his oath.
His lawyer, Atty. Eduardo Ariba, said Sebastian is poised to testify on how De Lima alleged instructed him to raise drug money for her 2016 senatorial campaign when she was still Justice secretary.
His lawyer, Atty. Eduardo Ariba, said Sebastian is poised to testify on how De Lima alleged instructed him to raise drug money for her 2016 senatorial campaign when she was still Justice secretary.
“He will also testify that during the time of former Justice Secretary
Leila de Lima, more particularly after the December 16 [2014] raid at
the maximum security compound, he was required to help the group of
former Secretary Leila de Lima raise funds for the elections,” Ariba
said.
He
added that Sebastian personally handed P2 million to De Lima in January
2015, as well as regular "payolas" to her alleged bagman, Joenel
Sanchez, from March to May of the same year.
