Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II on Thursday revealed that Bilibid convict Jaybee Sebastian had asked him to prepare his sworn statement for him, regarding his knowledge on anomalies inside the New Bilibid Prison.
Aguirre, at a press conference at the House of Representatives, said he refused Sebastian's request.
Actually, nag-offer siya [Sebastian] na ako na raw ang umawa ng affidavit niya, said Aguirre, to stress how Sebastian supposedly wanted to cooperate with the government.
"Sabi ko hindi puwede sa akin iyan. Anong sasabihin ko. Kayo [Sebastian's lawyers] gumawa niyan at kayo ang... kliyente niyo si Sebastian," Aguirre added.
Aguirre said Sebastian had only wanted to squeal on supposed irregularities in the meal allowances allotted for Bilibid inmates, something which did not sit well with Aguirre.
Iyong totoo lang [ang sabihin mo] para maging katanggap-tangap sa akin [ang affidavit mo]. Otherwise, kung gagawa ka ng affidavit na kulang, hindi kita tatanggapin sa Witness Protection Program, said Aguirre.
Aguirre said Sebastian's camp had apparently prepared an affidavit but the Justice secretary said he has yet to see it.
"Sabi [gumawa daw siya ng affidavit]... [Pero] kailangan makita ko muna ang affidavit na iyon," said Aguirre.
Sebastian is being accused by his fellow Bilibid inmates who had earlier testified at the House inquiry of raising funds through drug money for De Lima's senatorial campaign.
The senator has repeatedly denied links to illegal drug activity inside the national penitentiary.
